Gov Bala approves N42m support for Nigeria-Malaysia bilateral school debate championship

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed has approved the allocation of over N42 million to support the state contingent that will represent Nigeria at the Nigeria-Malaysia Bilateral School Debate Championship.

This prestigious event is set to take place from July 15 to 21, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in a remarkable display of dedication to education and youth empowerment by the Governor.

The Chairman of the National Advisory Board of President’s School Debate Nigeria, Usman Muhammad, announced that Bauchi State’s representatives earned this honour by triumphing over Ogun State in a fiercely contested final held in Abuja.

He stated “This victory highlights the exceptional talent and dedication of Bauchi’s students.”

In addition to the financial support, the Governor also granted the five winners of the championship full education scholarships up to the university level.

This generous initiative reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to rewarding and nurturing outstanding academic achievements among the youth of Bauchi State.

Bala Mohammad urged the Nigerian contingent to strive for excellence and bring home laurels for the country.

He appealed to the Federal Government to assume responsibility for sponsoring students who qualify at the national level for inter-school debate championships, as they represent the nation on the global stage.

He also commended the efforts of President’s School Debate Nigeria and its collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education under the patronage of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in organizing such impactful events.

The Bauchi State team, consisting of five debaters, one coach, one judge, one observer, and one matron, will be led by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB.

Their participation in the Nigeria-Malaysia Bilateral International Debate Championship not only showcases the academic prowess of Bauchi’s students but also serves as an inspiration to all Nigerian youth.

The Governor’s visionary leadership and support for educational initiatives continue to pave the way for a brighter future for Bauchi State.

His dedication to empowering the younger generation through education and international exposure is truly commendable.

The Ministry of Education stated “We extend our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to Governor Bala Mohammad for his extraordinary support and investment in the youth of Bauchi State. His efforts are a beacon of hope and progress for the entire nation.”

The selected members of the delegation have Intensified training and other presentations for the championship as contained in a statement by Jalaludeen Usman, Information and Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Ministry of Education.
