Gov Bala affirms commitment to revamping educational sector

Bauchi State Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed has affirmed his administration’s commitment to revamping the educational sector.

Given the significance of education, the governor stated that this would be achieved through collaboration with numerous stakeholders from both within and outside the country.

He made these remarks while attending the matriculation ceremony of Al-Muhibba Open University, Abuja, founded by his wife, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed. He applauded her for her outstanding performance and dedication to serving humanity through her various programs and foundations.

Bala Mohammed referred to his wife as “an anthology of knowledge and wisdom” for her role in establishing secondary and primary schools in Nasarawa State, which have now evolved into an Open University. He expressed pride in her tremendous vision and focus, stating that it reflects positively on him, their family, and the entire state, with potential to transform society significantly.

The Governor emphasized that the future of Nigeria rests with enterprising youths, urging them to embrace the challenge of self-employment through creativity. He also commended their willingness to give back to society.

Furthermore, he advised the 105 students admitted to the university to adhere to its tenets and rules, cautioning against engaging in any acts of lawlessness or indiscipline. He encouraged them to embrace dialogue, peaceful coexistence, discipline, and hard work to excel in their academic pursuits.

Bala Mohammed assured the students and university management of his administration’s continued support for enhancing teaching and learning. This support includes providing additional classroom blocks, laboratories, and ICT facilities in public schools.

He commended the National Universities Commission (NUC), JAMB, and other agencies for their trust and assured them of their ability to render reliable services for the growth of humanity and society at large.

Addressing the maiden matriculation of the university, the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, urged the university’s proprietor and chancellor, Aisha Bala Muhammad, to devise creative innovations for qualifications. He emphasized the need to open up the system for private education to meet the educational aspirations of the youth.

Mamman highlighted the significance of open distance learning education, noting that it represents the direction of tertiary education in the country. He encouraged students to be creative and proactive in addressing challenges, particularly youth unemployment, to secure their future post-graduation.

In her remarks, Chancellor Aisha Bala Mohammed stated that the university’s establishment aimed to provide opportunities for more Nigerian women and the less privileged to access higher education. She affirmed that the knowledge and skills offered at Al-Muhibbah Open University would reflect global best practices.

In a goodwill message, JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, congratulated the university’s chancellor on the landmark achievement and urged compliance with relevant rules and regulations.
