Gov Bago warns corps members against engaging in drug abuse, cybercrime

Governor Umaru Bago of Niger State has urged corps member to avoid the temptation of indulging in drug abuse, trafficking, cybercrime and other negative acts capable of portraying the scheme in a bad manner.

The Governor gave the advice during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B, Stream One orientation course of corps members deployed to the state and those dislodged from Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) at Paiko Local Government Area of the State.

Bago, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abubakar Usman, advised the corps members to be good ambassadors of the scheme.

“You must remember that being a corps member does not confer on you immunity from the legal consequences of any wrongdoing.

“I therefore, enjoined you to be law abiding and serve as role model to younger ones in communities you are posted to for your primary assessment,” he said.

He cautioned them to avoid the use of social media for ethnic prejudices, rumour peddling and hate speech, rather they should use it to promote unity and peace in the country.

The governor, however, appealed to employers to accept corps members posted to them, and treat them justly and fairly by making necessary provisions for their welfare.

Earlier in her address, NYSC Coordinator in Niger State, Mrs. Abdulwahab Alidat urged the corps member to accept their posting in good faith and discharge their duties as guided by the provisions of the NYSC Act and Bye-laws.

She urged them to desist from meddling in local politics, rather they should embark on personal and group Community Development Service Projects to up lift the living standard of people of their host communities.

Alidat implored the corps members to be security conscious, avoid attending night parties, visitations of dangerous places and acceptance of car ride and gifts from strangers.
