Gov Aliyu to revive mining sector in Sokoto

Sokoto State Government has approved a contract to revive the buying and selling centre for miners in the state.

This was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development, Yusuf Muhammad Maccido, during his inaugural meeting with members of the Miners Association of Nigeria (Sokoto State chapter).

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry’s Information Officer, Aminu Sani, the commissioner emphasized the government’s commitment to restoring the lost glory of the mining sector.

“The entire idea is to fully restore the lost glory of the centre, thereby improving the mining sector in Sokoto,” Maccido said.

“The present administration under Dr. Ahmad Aliyu is highly committed to reviving the sector, which is why it has approved a contract for the procurement of working equipment. This initiative aims to transform the sector before the end of the year.”

Maccido further noted that the move aligns with the administration’s broader objective of developing the ministry to compete with its counterparts in other mining-focused states such as Kebbi and Zamfara.

He expressed gratitude to the visiting miners and assured them of his commitment to carrying them along in the government’s efforts to rejuvenate the mining industry.

Speaking during the meeting, the National Officer of the Miners Association, Ibrahim Muhammad Dan Yaro, along with the state chairman for gypsum, Mainasara Asarakkawa, and representatives of miners and tippers associations, Ibrahim Garba Marnona and Shu’aibu Musa, congratulated Maccido on his appointment.

They pledged their full support to ensure his success as Commissioner for Solid Minerals Development.
