Gov Aliyu has executed over 186 capital projects in 18 months — Commissioner

As part of measures to fulfill his campaign promises to the people of the state, the Ahmad Aliyu-led administration in Sokoto State has executed over 186 capital projects since assuming office about eighteen months ago.

The State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, disclosed this on Friday while addressing journalists during a post-budget presentation press conference at the NUJ Press Centre.

The Commissioner, while highlighting some of the achievements of the state government over the past eighteen months, said the administration accomplished these feats without borrowing a kobo from any bank or financial institution within or outside the country.

He noted that, as part of the governor’s nine-point SMART agenda, the government has constructed and renovated numerous mosques across the state, equipping them with boreholes, solar power systems, and carpets to enhance the comfort of worshippers.

“The government has introduced a monthly cash allocation of between three hundred thousand naira to five hundred thousand naira for Jumaat mosques across the state.

“We have provided periodic food and cash assistance to Imams, Deputy Imams, and grassroots preachers across the state,” he said.

On security, he disclosed that over 140 patrol vehicles have been procured and distributed to security agencies to enhance operations, in addition to establishing a community guard corps.

Speaking on infrastructure, the Commissioner said the current administration has constructed and laid asphalt on over 150 township roads as part of its urban renewal program.

“All 23 local government area headquarters have also benefitted from the solar light installation program, and the state government is currently constructing 1,000 houses in Gidan Salanke and Wajake on the outskirts of the state capital.

“The government has also purchased 137 housing units built by the Federal Housing Authority in the Kwannawa area.”

He further stated that the government has restored the payment of monthly allowances to people with disabilities and increased the amount from ₦6,500 to ₦10,000.

The Commissioner added that the state government is committed to increasing the number of beneficiaries from the current 6,679 to 10,000 in the coming year.
