Gov Alia asks hunters to join in fighting crime

In an effort to beef up security in the State, Benue State Government has urged Nigerian hunters and Forest Security Service to sharpen their skills.

The hunters were trained by troops of 72 special forces battalion for four days.

Addressing the hunters on Wednesday, Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia enjoined the operatives to make themselves visible and complement efforts of other security agencies in crime fighting

The governor also admonished them to respect human rights of the law-abiding citizens

He said that contrary to the belief in some quarters that security was yet to abate, the governor said that, relative peace had returned to the states.

According to him, “Am sure that the capacity training you have received from men of the 72 special forces battalion has sharpened your skills to face the task ahead.

“I also urge you to make yourself visible and complement efforts of other security agencies in crime fighting and above all respect human rights of law-abiding citizens.”

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to Governor on security and internal matters, Joseph Har lauded the active presence of the operatives in the state.

He said that the hunter had earlier arrested six persons for various crime offences which he said accounted for their usefulness in curbing crimes.

Earlier, the State Commander of Nigeria Hunters and Forest Security Services, Peter Ajonya commended 72 special forces battalion for the capacity training, the governor, traditional rulers and all others for their assistance and support given to the operatives.
