Gov Ademola Adeleke: Visionary leader exploring youth potential for sustainable change

As November 27, 2024, marks the second anniversary of Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke’s remarkable tenure in office, it is fitting to reflect on the transformative leadership he has demonstrated and the inspiring path he has paved for Osun State. Governor Adeleke is not just a leader; he is a visionary whose commitment to leveraging youth potential and fostering innovation has set a new benchmark for sustainable development in governance.

Under his visionary administration, Osun State has experienced a renaissance—a renaissance powered by technology, driven by innovation, and championed by the youth. As the Special Adviser on Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy, I have had the privilege of working closely with Governor Adeleke, witnessing firsthand his dedication to making Osun a model state in the digital economy.

Governor Adeleke’s administration has recognised that the future of governance and economic development lies in digital transformation. Through his steadfast support and forward-thinking policies, he has empowered me and my team to embark on ambitious projects designed to modernise Osun State’s economy, create jobs, and make governance more efficient. His belief in the youth of Osun as agents of change has been a cornerstone of his administration’s philosophy, and his trust in my capabilities has enabled us to chart a course toward a digitally driven, sustainable future.

Governor Adeleke’s approach to governance is centred on creating an enabling environment for innovation. Under his leadership, we have made significant strides in key areas:

1. Osun One: The digital one-stop shop for government services, soon to be launched, epitomises his vision for transparent, efficient, and citizen-centred governance.

2. Osun Resident Smart ID System: This project, which integrates with NIMC, underscores his commitment to leveraging technology to streamline government processes and improve service delivery.

3. The Digitalisation of Osun Grove: By marrying technology with culture, the Governor has highlighted the potential of the digital economy to preserve our heritage while creating new revenue streams.

4. Public Wi-Fi Initiatives: Providing free internet access at public locations such as Freedom Park and the State Library is a testament to his goal of bridging the digital divide in Osun State.

Governor Adeleke understands that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the active involvement of the youth. His policies reflect an unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for young people to thrive. Initiatives such as the proposed Osun Digital City in the Free Trade Zone, designed to attract IT firms and position Osun as a hub for digital trade and innovation, are clear indications of his belief in the transformative power of youth-led innovation.

As a beneficiary of his vision, I have been empowered to play a key role in actualising these initiatives. His guidance, encouragement, and open-door leadership style have given me the confidence to innovate and collaborate with stakeholders at the local and international levels.

In just two years, Governor Adeleke has laid the foundation for a legacy that will endure for generations. His emphasis on a digital economy is not just a strategy for economic growth—it is a paradigm shift that positions Osun State as a leader in Nigeria’s technological evolution.

His administration’s focus on sustainable development through digital transformation, cultural preservation, and youth empowerment has set a trajectory for Osun State that promises to unlock unprecedented opportunities. Governor Adeleke’s leadership is a testament to the power of vision and action, proving that governance, when rooted in innovation and inclusivity, can truly transform lives.

As we celebrate this milestone, I am deeply honoured to continue serving under a leader who believes in the boundless potential of Osun’s youth. Governor Adeleke’s support has not only enabled my personal success but has also set the stage for a digitally transformed Osun State economy—a sustainable future we can all be proud of.
