Odunade in his judgment ruled that their union be dissolved and awarded custody of the two younger children who are twins to the plaintiff and the eldest to the defendant.
The defendant was mandated to pay N6, 000 as the twins’ monthly feeding allowance and take charge of the children’s education and health care.
Bunmi Olatunji had dragged her husband to court on the accounts of lack of care, constant harassment, threat to life and battery.
She thus urged the court to separate them, grant her custody of their three children and order him to desist from coming to her shop to harass and fight her.
On their first appearance in court on September 21, the plaintiff stated thus:
“My children and I mean nothing to my husband. He doesn’t cherish us and cares less about us.
“He doesn’t know how we eat or survive each day. I fend for our children and train them in school.
“We only feel his presence in the home when he starts shouting on the children and fighting me. We quarrel nearly every day and when we do, he ends up injuring me.
“The scars on my body tell of the many beatings I have received from him while I have spent a fortune on medical treatment.
“He also comes to my shop to harass me. He accuses me of sleeping with men in the hotels and calls me unprintable names. He will then destroy my property in the shop and then beat the hell out of me.
“The last time we fought, he hit me on the head with a sharp object which left a deep cut on my head. I reported him at the police station after my head was stitched at the hospital. It was at the police station I was counseled to come to court, “Bunmi stated.
“My wife is disobedient. She flouts my orders and prefers to listen to the evil counsel given her by her family members.
“She has a carefree attitude to life and she’s not bothered about my welfare and that of our kids. Often times, she returns home late which makes the children sometimes go to bed with empty stomach.
“I have complained about this often times but she has refused to change.
“My wife is unfaithful to me. She constantly denies me sex, but hangs out with her lovers. She is a familiar face at two hotels near her shop. Her lovers sleep with her there. She returns home drunk on many occasions and will fill the house with great stench coming from her vomit.
“I’m also fed up with her, she can leave if she wants, “the defendant said.
The case was adjourned till October 11 while the couple was asked to come with their children.
On the adjourned date, the plaintiff still insisted on divorce while her husband acceded to it.
Their union was thus dissolved.
