A GORILLA has been accused of swallowing the sum of N6.8 at the Kano Zoological Gardens.
A report by the BBC Pidgin monitored in Kano on Friday said a finance officer in the zoo was quoted as saying that the gorilla “sneaked into their office” and carted away the money before swallowing it.
Sources claimed that the incident occurred during the last Ramadan celebrations.
The Managing Director of the zoo, Alhaji Umar Kobo, confirmed that the money is missing and that the issue is still being investigated.
Kobo had told the BBC Pidgin that “the issue is under investigations for now and I don’t want to say anything on the matter. Many journalists have come to meet me, but I don’t want to talk anything. What I can confirm is that money is missing.”

It was gathered that the police in the state had confirmed those on duty when the money got missing. Ten people were said to have been arrested over the incident.
A police source was quoted as saying: “Yes, it is true that money from five days of Sallah festivities is missing from the Kano Zoo. As at now, we have arrested 10 members of staff of the zoo, including the security man and those working in the finance unit.”
It will be recalled that in a related case, a sales clerk at the office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Philomena Chieshe, is standing trial on the claim that a snake swallowed the sum of N36million proceeds from the sale of JAMB scratch cards belonging to the examination body, in February.
