Google to end its Podcast service by June 2024

Published by

In a recent announcement, Google has declared the impending closure of its widely-used podcast service, Google Podcasts, by June 2024.

To ease the transition for users, Google has introduced a tool allowing subscribers to seamlessly migrate their show subscriptions to YouTube Music or download a file of their subscriptions for use with other compatible podcast apps.

With YouTube Music, listeners can enjoy podcasts on the go, including features like background play and offline downloads, all without the need for a paid membership.

However, users are urged to take action before the service shutdown dates. After June 23rd, 2024, access to podcasts on Google Podcasts will be discontinued, and after July 29th, 2024, migration or export of subscriptions will no longer be possible.

It’s essential for users to act promptly to preserve their podcast libraries and ensure uninterrupted access to their favourite content.

Additionally, Google assures users that their podcast data will remain accessible via Google Takeout for one year following the service’s deprecation.

However, users also have the option to delete their data by deleting their Google accounts entirely, though this would result in the loss of all associated content across various Google services.

To facilitate the migration and export process, users are reminded to update their Google Search and Google Podcasts apps to the latest versions and ensure they have a valid account type.

Failure to update the apps by the specified deadline will result in automatic redirection to the web version of Google Podcasts, where some features, such as downloading, may not be available.

For users with inquiries or needing assistance, Google has provided support resources to address any questions or concerns during this transition period.
