Good governance product of executive/legislature collaboration ―Ambode

LAGOS State governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, on Monday said that collaboration between the Executive and Legislature is critical for any government to deliver on its electoral promises and provide good governance for its citizens.

This was just as he described the Lagos State House of Assembly as the best in the country, saying it was the most vibrant and articulate, aside being very supportive of the administration in the state.

Ambode made this submission while declaring open the 14th Lagos State Executive-Legislative Parley, which took place at Festac Area of Lagos. Saying the parley was aimed at making sure that the Executive and the Legislature were on the same page.

Governor Ambode also said for any state government programme and policy to be effective and make impact, a sound legal framework was needed to secure the confidence of investors and others, contending that the Legislature was the body that usually provided that.

He said this was why collaboration between the Executive and Legislature was important, especially to achieve targets, maintaining that there was nothing that a government could ever achieve, if the legal framework was not put together properly.

“We need the legal framework, without good legal framework, the private sector will not believe it and invest their money,” Ambode said.

Governor Ambode, while describing the Lagos State House of Assembly as the best in the country, being the most vibrant and articulate, among others, also commended the legislators at the National Assembly for being very cooperative.

The governor said the theme of the parley: ‘Lagos: the Rise of a Mega City State, the Collaboration that Works,’ was aptly picked because of the new drive of his administration in the areas of transport, environment, internally generated revenue, and energy.

Speaking further, Governor Ambode insisted that the prosperity of Lagos State was well assured, declaring that the state was on the right path and that elected officials in the state would not fail the people.

The Lagos State Head of Service, Mrs Olabowale Ademola, in her welcome address, said the theme of the parley was not only apt, but a deliberate effort to underscore the importance of collaboration to governance.

Ademola assured that the forum had had a positive impact on delivering on electoral promises and good governance in Lagos, a development she said had made the state a model for inclusive governance.
