The ongoing construction of Gombi cottage hospital has reached about eighty per cent completion contrary to a report carried by an online news platform, that the project has been abandoned.
The 60-bed project awarded at the cost of N200 million was among three new others in Lamurde, Shellegn and Girei local government areas embarked upon by the Ahmadu Fintiri led administration with a duration of 16 months.
A news platform had recently reported that the project handled by Unipopular Nigeria Limited, a company owned by Adamu Kamale, has allegedly abandoned the hospital after being paid the sum of N180 million for the project.
Reacting to the report, the Adamawa State government described the report as untrue and baseless as the Gombi cottage hospital project has reached an advanced stage of completion.
The Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Dr Umar Garba who revealed this in an interview with newsmen in Gombi commended the contractor for executing quality and fastest-moving project among the other three cottage hospitals awarded to boost health care delivery in the state.
According to him “The project is in tandem with specifications as contained in the contract award, we have talked with our consultant on all the projects and the report from the consultant and what we can see on ground is positive as far as the progress and quality of the work is concerned,” we are satisfied he said.
The commissioner said, “what informed the insinuation that the project was abandoned might not be unconnected with the court order with regard to issues of compensation of the land owners which the government is trying to sort out.”
The site engineer Arch, Kwaji Drambi Kwabe said the project started last year and has reached ninety per cent completion in just eight months adding that they hope to complete the job in the next two months,” actually what remains are finishing touches and fencing.”
“As you can all see the project has been carried out successfully without any hitches from government or contractor what we are waiting for is fencing design from the contractor,” he said.
He added that work has never stopped since the commencement of the project as they have received one hundred and eighty million naira out of the contract sum and hope to finish the project by the end of this year.
Some residents of Gombi, Malam Yahaya Adamu and Billaminu Gombi in an interview with newsmen said that the project is the first of its kind in Gombi, stressing that since commencement, work has never stopped for a day, “we wish that all contractors will work like this”
“We don’t have a mortuary before but this project we now have mortuary. The work has never stopped. They always work day and night. May God help us. Fintiri should continue to govern the state for the next six years,” he said.
As at the time of the visit, men were seen finishing some of the tilings inside the hospital.
