Gombe: Police, State Judiciary to work together, synergise against crimes

The Gombe State Police Command and the State Judiciary have expressed their commitment to working together and collaborating towards ensuring a safer and more secure Gombe state. This determination was conveyed by the State Police Commissioner, Hayatu Usman, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Halima Shamaki during a visit by the Police Commissioner to the Office of the Chief Judge on Tuesday.

The meeting reportedly concluded positively, with both parties expressing gratitude for the opportunity to discuss matters of common interest and strengthen the ties between the Police and the Judiciary in Gombe state.

During the visit, Commissioner of Police Hayatu Usman discussed various issues with the Chief Judge, focusing on the prosecution of criminal cases and other challenges faced by the Police in carrying out their constitutional duties effectively. He emphasized the need for cooperation and support from the Judiciary to enhance the effective application of the criminal justice system in the state.

Commissioner of Police Hayatu Usman pledged collaboration with the Judiciary in training and capacity building for Police officers on investigative techniques, evidence gathering, case presentation, and adherence to the rule of law in the fight against crime.

In response, Justice Halima Shamaki acknowledged the crucial role of the Police in maintaining law and order in society. She assured the Commissioner of Police that the Judiciary would do its best to support the police in the discharge of their duties, treating cases brought before the courts with urgency and fairness.

Justice Halima Shamaki expressed her commitment to collaborating with the police in the fight against crime and highlighted the need for synergy between the judiciary and law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for the residents of Gombe state.

The visit by Commissioner of Police Hayatu to the office of the Chief Judge of Gombe demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to building strong partnerships with the judiciary in the fight against crime, highlighting the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies and the judiciary in the pursuit of justice and the maintenance of law and order. The Commissioner of Police was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Sani Omolori, OC SFI, OC Legal, and other Senior Officers.
