In a significant move to safeguard the health of its citizens, Gombe State has launched an Outbreak Response for Polio in Jamari Ward, Dukku Local Government Area.
The flag-off ceremony, held on Saturday brought together key stakeholders, including government officials, traditional leaders, and development partners.
The Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Abdulrahman Shuaibu who represented the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Habu Dahiru emphasized the importance of the outbreak response in protecting children under five from the polio virus.
He urged parents and caregivers to make their children available for the immunization campaign, reassuring them that the vaccine is safe and effective.
The Executive Secretary also acknowledged the vital role traditional leaders play in supporting immunization campaigns and routine immunization in the state.
This was echoed by the Emir of Kaltungo, Engr Saleh Muhammad, Chairman of the State’s Traditional Council on Health, who encouraged parents to participate in the campaign and expressed gratitude for the state government’s efforts to improve the health and well-being of its people.
The Emir of Dukku, Alhaji Haruna Abdulrasheed, pledged to ensure the activity runs smoothly in his emirate and promised his support. Development partners, including WHO, UNICEF, and New Incentives, pledged their commitment towards providing technical assistance and reaffirmed their dedication to all health activities in the state.
The ceremony was marked by vibrant cultural dance and drama presentations, highlighting the community’s engagement and enthusiasm for the initiative.
This collaborative effort demonstrates Gombe State’s commitment to eradicating polio and ensuring the health and well-being of its citizens. With continued support from stakeholders, the state is poised to make significant strides in combating this debilitating disease.
