Gombe governor to visit UN Headquarters, New York Academy of Science

Gombe state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has departed Nigeria to participate in a high-level roundtable on primary healthcare and human capital development in Seattle, Washington, United States of America.

The Governor left in the early hours of today alongside some other Governors, including those of Lagos, Borno, Ogun, Bauchi and the President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote for the 2-day event which holds from Tuesday, 12th to Wednesday 13th November at the Headquarters of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The conference, convened by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation ( BMGF) and Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) in collaboration with Nigerian Governors’ Forum ( NGF),  is expected to feature interactive sessions involving both foundations’ teams, the Governors and their state-level sector health leaders with key federal level sector heads in Nigeria on the link between health and human capital development.

The conference will also discuss current country performance, benchmarking local and international development indicators, and engage participants in solution-based learnings and discussions to co-create opportunities for improved health and human capital development.

For Governor Inuwa Yahaya and his counterparts, the gathering is an opportunity to network and deepen relationships as well as further strengthen state-focused collaborations with key stakeholders for the benefit of their respective people.

In Gombe state, health and human capital development are among key priority sectors of the administration, with the Governor determined to improve the healthcare system and pioneer a state-backed health insurance scheme for efficient and effective service delivery.

Meanwhile, after the 2-day roundtable, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya will visit UN Headquarters in New York, where he will meet with the Deputy Secretary-General and heads of Key UN agencies, including the UN Resident Coordinator( RC UN), United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP), United Nations Industrial Development Organisation ( UNIDO) and Food and Agriculture Organisation ( FAO) on key issues of collaboration,  partnership and support for the benefit of the people of Gombe state.

While in the US, the Governor will also hold an exploratory meeting on areas of interest with New York Academy of Science among other engagements as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
