Gombe gov tasks public office holders on maintenance culture

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has charged public office holders in the state to imbibe the culture of maintenance and safeguard public property at their disposal.

The Governor who decried the neglect of public property by those saddled with the responsibility of their management and maintenance said.

“We must go back and retrace our steps. We must imbibe the spirit of maintenance of public property. We must do the right thing as far as this administration is concerned. This is my resolve. This is my call.”

The Governor was speaking after inspecting 10 refurbished vehicles, including 5 fire fighting trucks and 5 utility vehicles belonging to the office of the Deputy Governor at the Government House, Gombe.

According to him, the refurbishing of the vehicles is aimed at instilling the culture of maintenance in the minds of civil and public servants as well as to engender efficiency in the operations of the firefighters in particular.

He lamented that the Gombe State Fire Service had only one functional fire fighting vehicle to serve the 11 local government areas, urging the firemen to ensure the maintenance of the refurbished trucks even as he pledged to acquire more vehicles for the service, not only for the metropolis but all the local Government areas.

Inuwa Yahaya also hinted that all abandoned vehicles at the Government House are being assessed to determine the ones to be put back on road, saying such gesture will be extended to all ministries, departments and agencies as a way of cutting costs and ensuring prudent and effective management of resources.

The Governor then announced during the event that, in order to improve the transportation service in the state, he approved the purchase of 50 brand new 18-seater buses for Gombe StateTransport Service Limited, known as Gombe Line.

The State Deputy Governor, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau whose office supervised the repairs and refurbishment work conducted the Governor round to inspect the vehicles.

There was a display of fire fighting powers and readiness of the men of the state fire service to confront emergencies as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Governor.
