Eleven years after it was closed due to the activities of insurgency, the Gombe State Government has approved the immediate reopening of the Government Secondary School, now Government Mega College, Dukku, for the commencement of academic activities.
State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya graciously approved the reopening of the school to further fulfil his pronouncement on the establishment of five mega schools in the state to decongest the existing ones.
The governor, who on different occasions expressed his administration’s commitments to the education industry in the state, said that the establishment of the mega schools will no doubt address major issues ranging from infrastructure deficits, instructional materials, and the manpower needs of both the teaching and non-teaching staff.
This brings the number of established mega schools to five across the state, which were designed to accommodate 3000 students each with state-of-the-art teaching aids to make it conducive to teaching and learning.
The five schools, which include Govt. Science Mega College Gombe, Govt. Science Mega College Kaltungo, Govt. Girls Mega College Doma, Govt. Mega College Dadinkowa, and Govt. Mega College Dukku, have all been turned around as mega colleges, which were hitherto in absolute decay and dilapidation as a result of deliberate neglect by previous administrations in the state.
Similarly, the current students of GSS Malam Sidi have since been moved to Govt Mega College, Dukku, to pave the way for a total overhaul of the school as approved and directed by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa in an effort to give the school a befitting look.
