Gombe gov launches Armed Forces Emblem Appeal fund

Gombe state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has assured of his administration’s continued support to ex-servicemen and their families, just as he paid tribute to the fallen heroes who fought to keep the nation and the world at peace just as he announced a donation of the sum of N2m to the fund.

The Governor was speaking during the 2019/2020 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund, organised to remember and raise funds in support of the nation’s veterans, ahead of the January 15 celebration.

Inuwa Yahaya who announced the donation on behalf of the State Government and a personal contribution of N1 million to the state chapter of the legion said that his administration will continue to partner with them in an effort to ensure a crime-free Gombe.

Commissioner of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Naomi Awak saluted the courage and sacrifice of men of the Nigerian Armed Forces for their resilience in World Wars, the Nigerian civil war, peacekeeping missions and the current war on Boko Haram.

Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Gombe state chapter, Warrant Officer Ibrahim Madaki said that on such occasion, monies realized are channelled towards empowering survivors and widows of the fallen heroes.

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is being celebrated in Nigeria every 15th of January in honour of the country’s fallen heroes who paid the supreme price in service to the nation as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity.
