Gombe begins construction of Madaki-Bamusa-Yelenguruza road

Residents of Gombe affected by road construction projects have been urged to comply with the government’s directives of vacating the compensated structures within the scheduled period, in order to facilitate timely take-off and completion of the projects.

The appeal was made by the State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who was speaking during the flag-off of payment of compensation to residents of Madaki, Bamusa and Yelenguruza all within Gombe metropolis whose properties were affected by the road construction project planned to be executed by the state government.

He said that despite the lean resources in government coffers, his administration will ensure lives of citizenry are improved from all facets of human endeavours

Inuwa Yahaya further said that road network construction across the eleven LGAs of the state is one of his administration’s priorities and therefore urged the host communities to cooperate with the construction companies for a hitch-free project.

The governor said: “Residents’ prompt compliance will enable the construction companies to mobilise to the site for the project take-off and possibly complete before the rainy season begins.”

He added that the government will henceforth ensure due process in land allocation and sale of plots by individuals, warning that the government will not take it lightly with any person found violating land allocation laws.

He pointed out that, “During our campaigns, we pledged to improve your lives in all facets of human endeavours, we, therefore, have to keep to our words no matter the economic status of the state because the resources belong to the people.”

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner of Finance and Economic Development, Mohammed Gambo Magaji, who is the Chairman of the compensation payment committee, said about 109 affected persons will be presented with cheques of about 80 million naira by the state government.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Abubakar Bappah, in a remark said the idea of the road project in the 3 communities was conceived since the year 2012 but could not be realized until the present administration came on board.

He said that the residents of Madaki, Bamusa and Yelenguruza over the years experienced a flood and other environmental threats as a result of lack of roads but if this project is completed the sad experience will soon be history.

Speaking on behalf of the host communities, the Senior District Head of Gombe, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abubakar Umar, thanked the governor for making the road projects in the 3 communities a reality.

He said after years of project expectations by the residents of the area, eventually Governor Yahaya made their dream a reality.

He said traditional and community leaders are fully committed to supporting the government in whatever task they are found relevant in the course of the project implementation as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli
Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the governor.
