Gombe approves N13.3bn for road projects

Gombe State Executive Council has approved to spend the sum of N13.3bn for road projects as captured in the 2020 budget appropriation in order to open up the state and enhance transportation network.

The N13.3bn for road projects was disclosed by the Commissioner of Information, Ibrahim Alhassan, while briefing Journalists at the end of the weekly State Executive Council, (SEC) meeting held at the Government House in Gombe on Wednesday.

Ibrahim Alhassan explained that the Council also approved the release of money for all the various road projects initiated before the inauguration of the Council last year in order to follow due process.

He further said that the projects were currently ongoing in 10 of the 11 local government councils of the state which include Balanga, Akko, and Kwami, adding that the project was yet to commence at Nafada.

The Commissioner said: “For being a responsible government we have to do the right thing and follow due process and procedures in whatever we do”.

He then revealed that the sum of N3.7 billion was approved for the Degiri-Dembele-Tallese road in Balanga LGA and another sum of N2.2 billion for the Mararraba-Jaba-Garinwada Road in Akko while the sum of N1.9 billion was approved for the Zau’e -Malala-Zange Road.

Other capital projects approved by the SEC according to the Commissioner included the sum of N1.7 billion for the Malam Inna-Kundulum-Kurba-Potiskum Road in Kwami LGA and another sum of N3.8 billion for the Billiri-Gujuba-Kamo Road.

Ibrahim Alhassan explained that the gesture was part of the state government’s commitment to providing 100 kilometers of roads in each of the 11 local councils in the state as contained in its campaign promise to the people of Gombe state.
