Inuwa Yahaya
Gombe state Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has waded into and made a commitment to settle all the accrued debt owed to the Federal Airports Authority, (FAAN) since the last administration in order to avert the closure of the Gombe airport.
This follows notice by FAAN, indicating its resolve to withdraw the services of its aviation security, as well as aerodrome rescue and fire fighting personnel, thereby effectively shutting down operations in some airports, including Gombe Airport from today, Friday, 15th November 2019.
It will be recalled that FAAN had in April this year threatened to shut down Gombe Airport and 8 others that were indebted to the airports’ authority after an earlier ultimatum had lapsed.
However, on coming to office in May, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya had to intervene to get FAAN to continue with its services in Gombe Airport.
Following the latest notice, the Gombe State Government has committed to making another payment by the end of this month with a commitment to off-set all outstanding debts in subsequent months as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
