Gombe 2019: Nafada expresses optimism of beating other governorship aspirants

ONE of the serving Senators who recently defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Usman Bayero Nafada, representing Gombe North has expressed confidence of beating all other governorship aspirants of his new party in the forthcoming party primaries.

Bayero Nafada stated this in an interview with Journalists in Gombe shortly after submitting his expression of interest form for the governorship of the State at the PDP State Secretariat.

Senator Nafada, who before the 2015 general elections was a stalwart of the PDP and had served as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, joined the APC during the spate of defections in 2014 and was elected Senator.

Barely a month now after returning to the opposition PDP, Usman Bayero Nafada, who was denied the APC governorship ticket in 2015, said that he is a better aspirant to win the PDP primaries and even go ahead to clinch the governorship election in the 2019 elections.

According to him, he has the best political credentials that none of the other aspirants have, which makes him the best to clinch the ticket having served the nation as its number six citizen when he was the Deputy Speaker.

In his words, “I know that if people are to come and look at the contestants and do a rating, I am sure of being number one or at worst number two, but I doubt if I will not be the number one”.

He added that, “I have been in governance all these years, I was a Speaker in this State for about four years, I was in the House of Representatives as a Deputy speaker, meaning I was having a number, number six citizen, and so if I am coming to contest with others, I will tell them that I had a number and stop there. It’s a credential that none of them has it and I am a Senator now”.

The gubernatorial aspirant then expressed optimism in getting the ticket based on his political credential and waved away any possibility of losing it stressing that even as a State Party Chairman, it will never amount to rigging if he asks voters to help the best contestant to pick the ticket.
