Golf tourism: when Ajomale-McWord’s IDSGT created path for global harmony

The annual golf tournament conceptualised to celebrate human migration, travel and tourism created global harmony and understanding amongst nations of the world as the International Diplomacy Stableford Golf Tournament hosted the fourth edition with droves of diverse participants.

It was a weekend best described as auspicious moment of social cohesion, as Afri Diplomat magazine, in partnership with The Envoy Hotel, Abuja and The Guardian Newspapers hosted a pre-tournament global harmony night for social networking.

It was a gathering of different nationalities (golfers and non-golfers).

The tournament had participation from embassies of 17 countries and expatriates from different sphere of life.

For the golf tourism tournament, three individuals who are personnel of entities with diplomatic mission status won in the tournament.

Ludwig Kirchner from GIZ won the men’s category with 42 Stableford points.

In the female category, Makosi Musambasi came third with 36 Stableford points on countback. Ambassador Kim Young-Chae had the best score from the diplomatic community (after Ludwig Kirchner) with a 39 Stableford points.

Non-diplomat winners of the tournament included Amina Wilfred (Longest Drive & Nearest The Pin Ladies), Florence Anyanwu – Acting Auditor General of Nigeria (Veteran Ladies), Sunita K Biju (Winner Ladies Category), Joy Ikwue (Runner Ladies Category), C Uwandu (Veteran Men), Sola Adebayo (Longest Drive Men), M. Suleiman (Nearest To The Pin) Jimmy Ahmed (2nd Runner Up Men’s Category), P.I. Oyewale (Runnerup Men’s category)

Speaking after the tournament; the publisher of Co-organiser of the tournament and South African Consul General Cup, Prince Deji Ajomale-McWord said “we are grateful to God for making the this year’s edition success, also to our sponsors, diplomats and other players who participated despite the ‘threatening weather’.

“Because this is not just a tournament where people gather to golf and merry, but one tied around noble subjects and cause; we are constantly measuring its impact.

“It gives us great joy to know that it is achieving its set goals. Earlier in the day, Nico Figueroa from US Embassy and the Chinese ambassador – Ambasssador Cui Jian Chun, were batched in same flight and I wittingly remarked that it’s interesting to find US and China on same flight.

“The Chinese ambassador replied me saying ‘it’s important we work together’. That for me is the spirit of diplomacy and the power of social cohesion in sport,” Prince Deji added.
