Senior pastor of the Simply Worship International Ministry, Benin City, Reverend Victor Atenaga, has stated that God is still interested in Nigeria.
He said this at the church’s project targeted at providing for the underprivileged, carried out last week, which featured health screening, and provision of clothing, food, furniture, electronics, kitchen utensils, and free legal counselling.
Atenaga, who said the gesture was termed Smile Naija Project, noted that it was targeted at indigent people to make a difference in their lives.
“Today is just a day our church gives out to the city. We want to tell them that God is still interested in Nigeria. We started with giving out clothes as well as provided medical attention to those who needed it. We also gave out food, kitchen utensils, furniture, electronics, as well as legal counselling, free of charge.
“The funding is entirely being done by our church members. We started five years ago and we have done this six times in total. The project is opened to Christians and non-Christians. The condition is not that you give your life to Christ, but if you come, we will preach to you that Jesus loves you and that He wants to make a difference in your life,” he stated.
A beneficiary, Mrs Eunice Obasuyi, who came for eye test, said she was not a member of the church but heard about the programme through her son, who is a member of the church.
She said: “If you go to the hospital, you will wait endlessly before they attend to you, but things are very fast here. The cleric is simply doing the work of God; he is simply helping God.”
Another beneficiary, Edna Osilaje, who came for medical check up, described the gesture as “a directive of God.”
One aim is to reduce management layers, the spokesperson said.
JAMB stated that the review will incur no cost to the board.
