Makeover

Go stylishly traditional this Valentine’s Day

This 2017 Valentine’s Day, rather than go for the common red and white-themed Western outfits and accessories, Makeover highlights unique ways to celebrate love this season – the traditional style.

Get creative with outfits

Rather than go for bland single colours this Valentine, when it comes to the dress, whether you choose the Ankara or Western options, go for bolder colours and more creative. You can use the Ankara in as many ways possible – as a long or short dress; as a long or short skirt; as a jumpsuit; as trousers on a plain shirt; among other options. If you want, you can let a touch of red reflect in the fabric.

Signature headwrap

Many women associate Valentine’s Day with formal dresses, casual jeans and top, among other Western outfits. However, there aren’t many ways to fail with a statement headwrap, no matter the fabric used. The important thing is to ensure that the material is colourful – go for bold colours preferable. They are an important way to show that you’re an African woman with beauty, brains and class – an admirable combination.

Ankara clutch

Who says you can’t strike gold on your date with an Ankara-themed clutch bag! They’re the perfect accessory and match as many styles of outfits as possible, including formal evening dresses. You’ll be sure to stand out from the crowd. Style your wrists with beautiful bangles, a wristwatch and well-manicured nails, and you are good to go.

Makeup

In recent times, makeup is tending towards less on the bold side, and more on the natural, save for the lips. Valentine’s Day may be your perfect excuse to pay good money for quality makeup. Only take the DIY option if you will do a great job – there won’t be two Valentine’s Day to celebrate in 2017 and it is necessary you leave a lasting impression.

Shoes to die for

Whatever the occasion you choose to celebrate love, always choose the right shoes to go with them. This Valentine’s Day, get more creative with fashion for your feet, not forgetting to get quality pedicure before the D-day.
