NIGERIA rising stars, Kelechi Iheanacho and Alexi Iwobi, have won their first international awards at the 25th CAF Awards in Abuja just as the Super Falcons claimed the Women National Team of the year award and Sensational playmaker, Asisat Oshoala emerged winner of Women Footballer of the Year
The Manchester City striker, Iheanacho won the award for the Most Promising Player in the continent while his Super Eagles counterpart and Arsenal FC attacker, Iwobi won the Youth Player Award.
The Super Falcons, who recently won the African Women Nation’s Cup trophy for a record 8th time deservedly emerged as the awardees for the Women National Team of the year.
Other winners include Uganda, for the CAF Team of the Year, South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns emerged Club of the Year and their coach, Pitso Mosimane, emerged coach of the year.
CAF Referee of the Year Award went to Bakary Papa Gassama while African Player of the Year Award (Based in Africa) went to Denis Onyango.
The African Footballer of the Year Award went to Riyad Mahrez of Tunisia and Leicester City, beating Pierre Emeric –Aubameyang of Gabon and Borussia Dortmund, immediate past winner and Sadio Mane of Senegal and Liverpool to the top spot.
