Nigeria’s king of music, Olamide Adedeji better known as Olamide or Baddo and Chibuzor Nelson Azubuike popularly known as Phyno were the artistes at the recently held Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour in Asaba, Delta State.
Held at the expansive Dome, the event, which was put together by the grandmasters of data, Globacom, was headlined by an inventory of Nigerian A-list music virtuosos including Afro-pop diva, Yemi Alade; Megebele crooner, Omawumi; king of highlife, Chinedu Okoli popularly known as Flavour and Africa’s twin singing sensation, PSquare.
It also featured Nollywood stars such as Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Patience Ozokwor aka Mama G, Victor Osuagwu, Juliet Ibrahim, Mercy Johnson who kept the venue alive, interacting with the crowd at the beginning.
Anchored by the duo of Mercy Johnson Okogie and Ghollywood star, Juliet Ibrahim, the show witnessed some performances from up and coming artistes from Asaba, which was followed by a dancing competition.
Omawumi was the first A-list artiste to perform. The ‘home girl’ gave the Asaba guests a large portion of her musical dexterity. Her energy-filled performance was roundly applauded by the crowd.
She was followed by Afro-pop queen, Yemi Alade, whose soulful songs comprising tracks like Tangerine,Pose, No do me, Kom Kom, kissing and Ferrari held the crowd spellbound.
Flavour produced a full dose of sublime entertainment moving from one delightful track to the other, with the crowd responding positively to his beats.
Then came Africa’s leading hip–hop singers, PSquare, who took control of the stage, perfectly dictating the pace. They belted out several of their hit tracks in quick succession with incredible energy to the excitement of the audience. Songs such as“Testimony”, “on Fire”, “E no Easy”, “No one be like you” was enough entertainment for the audience.
But the introduction of Olamide alongside his Igbo-entho rapper, Phyno brought no small electric seizure to the crowd.
Olamide first lightened up the atmosphere with excellent rendition of some of his hit tracks with swag and panache. His performance attracted Nollywood actor, Victor Osuagwu, who joined him on the stage and danced rhythmically to the delight of the crowd.
While delivering the popular Shakiti Bobo track, the Fada Fada singer Phyno appeared on the stage, eliciting massive excitements, ear-spitting shouts and call and response from the crown and transiting the event to a carnival with virtually everyone dancing and singing in the hall as the duo performed some of their best body of work.
The combination of the two artistes brought the best out of the fans and the venue became electrified.
The Delta State government was represented by a team led by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon Monday Ovwigho Igbuy, including the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhere, Hon. Prince Eric Oharisi, Hon. Emeka Nwobi, Hon. Erijo Johnson and Hon and Mrs Talib Tebite.
Also in attendance was the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Hon. Mofe Pira, his Information counterpart, Mr. Patrick Ukah, Chairman, Sapele Local Government Area, Mrs. Eloho Odebala and Controller, CBN, Asaba, Dame Elizabeth Agu.
In his speech, Mr. Augustus-ndu Offor, Globacom’s National Sales Coordinator, Mid-West, said that the concert was a “way of appreciating our customers for their abiding faith in the Glo network over the years.”
He disclosed that Aba, Abia State, will host the next edition of Glo Mega Music Nationwide Tour.
