We have for long not shown the necessary commitment in the push for better environment for the exchange of knowledge in our country. Succeeding governments have only paid lip service to education in Nigeria. Despite our huge resources as a country, the political elite have consistently ensured the degrading of the education sector.

Many who lived and received formal education in the early years around the time of nation’s independence recall the quality of the western education acquired. What we have today is a clear departure from the expectations of the masses. In developed, saner climes, educationtakes the front seat when considerations are made in budget arrangements. Nigeria cannot experience true development without giving education the required leverage that is needed.
Our tertiary institutions are only shadows of themselves. There are no learning facilities; the decay in the infrastructure at the universities is a source of worry. The lethargy seen in academics and the flight of resource persons should be troubling for anyone who loves Nigeria dearly.
All stakeholders are expected to rise to the occasion by ensuring that we give our education sector the needed attention.
