Give priority attention to security, Cleric charges FG

The Federal Government has been urged to give priority attention to the issue of security in the country in order to adequately protect its citizenry.

The Senior Pastor of Father’s House Bible Church, Dr Richmond Leigh, made this call at a press conference in Lagos while speaking the staging of an epic drama that would re-enact the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, titled “The Nativity’ which is to hold in Lekki area of the state.

Pastor Leigh said the problem of insecurity had continued in the country because the government had failed to embark on vulnerability assessment to check areas of possible threats to the people.

Speaking at the parley attended by Pastors Lekan Jenyo and Tony Kadiri, among others, the renowned clergyman said Nigerians were apprehensive over looming insecurity around them, even as he assured that adequate security arrangements had been made for the staging of an epic drama.

“It is the government that has the responsibility to provide security for its people, that is their core duty, to provide security for lives and property. They are trying but they must boost the confidence of Nigerians in the country’s security architecture.

“But we are all Nigerians, the government has not gotten it right. They are not doing enough. They need to do more in the area of security. Nigerians right now live and work in insecurity. That is the general definition of security in the country right now. It is an insecure country. “As a pastor what I do is to pray. It’s the prayer that is keeping us alive,” he said.

Speaking on the drama packaged by the church, which he said had been on for the past 10years in Delta State but would be holding for the first time in Lagos, the cleric said over 200 casts would be featuring, adding that the church would also be having praise and worship concert tagged: Jesus Mega party.

Leigh expressed the urgent need to have religious harmony to ensure mutual coexistence in the country, saying the current bashing of the church through different means, including the social media, could heat up the polity and discredit the mandate of the church.

He appealed to the youth of the country to be law-abiding, saying his church had lined up programmes to keep them focused for a brighter rewarding future.
