GenCos generate, sent out 3,744MWs power in 2019

The power generation companies (GenCos) in 2019, generated and sent out a total of 32,799,114.3MWs/h energy, an average of 3,744MWs at the end of the year under review.

Out of the total sum sent out, the eleven electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos), consumed 28,026,503.0MW/h an average of 3199MWs.

Latest power generation data obtained from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS)showed that out of the total energy sent out by the GenCos only about 680MWs(5,957,697MWh) was generated by eight National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs)

According to a breakdown, Odukpani NIPP sent 1,936,156.0,Ihovbor 690,979.6, Gbarain NIPP255,448.8, Alaoji NIPP 207,363.6, Geregu 1,199,077.0, Omotosho 817,541.4, Olorunsogo NIPP 206,380.7 and Sapele 604,315.1.

From the report, ten privatized GenCos also generated and sent out 2,248MWs (19,692,683.9Mwh) for the year under review.

Out of the sum, Egbin generated the highest of 432MWs(3,786,313.0Mwh), followed by Kainji and Jebba with 338MW(2,964,722.0Mwh) and 326MW(2,859,189.0Mwh) respectively.

Other privatized GenCos are; Shiroro 2,520,234.0Mwh,Sapele 321,108.9Mwh,Delta 2,715,799.9Mwh,AFAM II-V 304,702.6Mwh, Omotosho gas 1,034,818.0MWh,Geregu gas1,800,594.8MWh and Olorunsogo gas 1,385,201.6Mwh.

For the Independent Power Producers(IPPs), a total of 890MW (7,798,253mwh) energy was sent out.

“Total Energy sent out by GenCos stood in 2019 at 32,799,114MWh. Privatized GenCos sent out 19,233,151 MWh, IPP GenCos sent out 7,648,700 MWh while the NIPP GenCos sent out 5,917,262 MWh,” the report read.

Similarly, out of the total energy consumed by the eleven DisCos, Ikeja DisCo recorded the highest energy consumption 4,087,971 MWh(467MW) followed by Abuja with 3,699,503.2Mwh(422MW).

However, Yola Disco recorded the lowest with 1,122,534MWh(128MW), accounting for 4% of total energy consumed in 2019.
