GEF tasks FG, military to rescue remaining Chibok schoolgirls

Following the release of 21 of the Chibok girls, the Global Excellence Foundation (GEF), on Sunday, called on the Federal Government and the Nigerian military to build on the current success in the fight against the Boko Haram insurgency and ensure that every Nigerian held captive by the terrorist group is freed.

The Country Director of GEF, Professor Ola Yemi, who addressed a press conference, in Abuja, on Sunday, however, appealed to the wife of the President, Aisha Buhari, not to withdraw support for the president at this critical time, but rather galvanise women support for him.

While Professor Yemi stated that many people who were not known to the public were still being held captive by Boko Haram; he pointed out that the recent interview, in which Mrs Aisha Buhari alluded to withdrawing support for President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, was a distraction that is not needed at this moment.

He regretted that the hectic fallout from her interview detracted from the joy of the Chibok girls’ release.

Meanwhile, the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev Dr Samson Ayokunle, has commended the Federal Government for the breakthrough recorded by getting 21 of the kidnapped Chibok girls released from the captivity of Boko Haram insurgents.

Ayokunle, in a statement issued and signed by his spokesman, Bayo Oladeji, who described the news of their release as great and pleasant since the beginning of the year, assured the Federal Government of CAN’s prayers to ensure every one of the Chibok girls still in captivity is released.

In a related development, the President of Christ Apostolic Church, Worldwide, Pastor Abraham Olukunle Akinosun, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the release of 21 Chibok girls. He said this is a step in the right direction which gives hope that the remaining girls would soon be released.

Pastor Akinosun, who was addressing the press in Abuja, during this year’s Pastors’ Conference in the Federal Capital, said the entire nation was happy at the news of the girls’ release and he urged the President to expedite action on the release of the remaining girls.

“It is one of the best news we have ever received this year from the government as a nation. Let the government be aware that CAN is with them in prayer in getting the rest of the girls released and that they should leave no stone unturned in getting the rest that are still alive released,” he said.
