Gbajabiamila urges parliamentary group to work as team for development of Nigeria

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, on Wednesday, tasked members of Parliamentarians for Global Action (PGA), Nigeria Chapter to work as a team for them to help reposition the institution of the legislature to make good laws for the benefits of Nigeria citizens.

Gbajabiamila said this at the formal inauguration of the Nigeria National Group of the Parliamentarians for Global Action PGA at the National Assembly.

The Speaker said that the group has been confirmed and recognised by the International Council of PGA as a national group of parliamentarians and commended the arrowhead of the body for actualising its existence in Nigeria.

He noted that the PGA stands as the largest non-governmental organization and international network of individual legislators globally.

He further enjoined the group to avail themselves the opportunity to engage, network with their peers from other parliaments so that they can deepen the culture of legislative practice and performance.

While assuring the group of support, he added that they should synergise with state Houses of assembly and work as a team in achieving the desired goals and objectives of the founding fathers of PGA.

On his own part Chairman of the PGA Nigeria Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas said that the group was the largest non-governmental, multi-party international network of individual legislators in the whole world

He further said that the PGA boasts of 1,350 members in 140 countries and they are committed to the defense of human rights, the rule of law, democracy, human security, and gender equality.

The lawmaker informed that the membership of the group is made up of serving parliamentarians and they leverage on international networking to support democracy, human right, and peacebuilding

He further hinted that PGA Secretariat in New York City is working in concert with the International Council and the Executive Committee comprising 15 members to bring to an end child marriage, death penalty, illicit drug trade and human rights abuses.
