Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila will on Wednesday next week inaugurate the chairmen, deputy chairmen, and members of the 105 standing committees of the House.
Recall that Gbajabiamila had on July 25, appointed 105 chairmen and 104 deputies for the House. The standing committee on women in parliament does not have a deputy.
Disclosing the decision to the plenary yesterday, Deputy Speaker, Ahmed Idris Wase, said the committee members’ list would be once again be announced at the end of plenary.
He also said the leadership of the House would meet with chairmen and their deputies to reel out the modus operandi after the inauguration.
The Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, announced the list of chairmen and their deputies on July 25, shortly before the house went on its annual recess.
It will recall that Speaker Gbajabiamila had last week given a September 30 deadline to all ad hoc committees to tidy up and submit their reports, so that the standing committees would take over.
Earlier, the Deputy House Leader, Hon. Peter Akpatason (APC, Edo) had moved a motion of urgent national importance reminding all ad hoc committees to complete their assignments and submit reports on or before September 30.
Ruling on the motion, Wase urged all ad hoc committees to adhere and comply with the resolution of the house.
He warned that failure to comply with the resolution will attract serious sanctions, as defaulting members would not be allowed to carry out any assignment in the House
