Gagi district head applauds UNICEF contribution to community development

The district head of Gagi community in Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Sani Umar Jabi, has applauded the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) for its contributions to the development of health sector in the community.

Jabi stated this while speaking to newsmen recently on the premises of Primary Health Centre in Gagi community.

The royal father described the contribution of the donor agency as unparalleled in the community.

He said that he will ensure the community takes ownership of all facilities provided for them by UNICEF.

He called on men to take responsibility by encouraging their wives to attend ante-natal, post-natal as well as encouraging immunisation for their children at designated health centres.

He said apart from the provision of drugs and other nutritional items for children and pregnant women in the community, UNICEF further provided borehole, hand-washing machines and toilets for both male and female.

Earlier, the country representative for UNICEF, Ms Christian Munduate, had said the agency is interested in good living conditions of women and children in the society.

She appealed to men in the community to encourage their wives to attend medical facilities, especially the pregnant and nursing mothers.

She assured that UNICEF will continue to do its best in ensuring that pregnant women and children are taking care of adequately.
