Fulani herdsmen, again, in the early hours of Saturday, attacked Tombo village in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State and killed 11 persons.

The latest attack came barely five days after the New Year invasion of six communities in Guma and Logo Government Areas of the state where no fewer than 50 persons were murdered in cold blood by the herders.

The state Police Command spokesman, ASP Moses Yamu, confirmed the killing of 10 whose names and ages he gave in a statement on Saturday evening.

A source in the affected village said that the incident happened in the early hours of Saturday, while the villagers were sleeping, a development the source said made them easy prey for the attackers.

It was gathered that the herdsmen in their numbers invaded the village, mauled houses and shot sporadically, killing 11 persons in the process.

Governor Samuel Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Terver Akase, also confirmed the report to Sunday Tribune.

But the police spokesman said that the attack occurred late on Friday at Tombo village in Mbanaga  district.

Yamu gave the names of those killed as: Terhiletyozua, 45 years; Mlahaga Tse, 65; Chiangi Tyozua, 40; Kwaghve Baki, 70; Suushater Kwaghve, 7 years and three months; Tortue Tsehemen, 52; Tsav Zahemen, 38; Aondohemba Shaku, 25; Francis, 22; and one other person yet to be identified who said to be a visitor.

“The area commander Katsina Ala  has arrived Logo to forestall further attack,” Police spokesman said.
