Fuel subsidy removal: Nigerians are suffering, NUJ tells FG

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has appealed to the Federal Government to give quick attention to the hardship Nigerians are going through as a result of the subsidy removal that has led to a sharp rise in the price of fuel.

The NUJ President, Chris Isiguzo, made the call during the Perennial Delegate Congress of the NUJ, Nasarawa State Council in Lafia on Thursday.

Isiguzo, who was represented by comrade Kris Astaka, the Vice President of NUJ Zone D said that the federal government needs to redouble its efforts as a matter of urgency to alleviate the untold hardship citizens are going through at the moment.

The NUJ President congratulated the new officials of the Nasarawa state chapter of the NUJ and urged them to live above board while discharging their duties.

Isiguzo who commended the maturity displayed by members of the council in the re-election process, said that the inauguration of Alkali and his EXCOs proved that the chairman has done tremendously well in his first tenure

He called on Journalists to continue to do their job without fear or favour and to continue to adhere strictly to their professional ethics.

The NUJ President also called on members to support the new officials to succeed.

In his acceptance speech, comrade Alkali commended members of the council for their unwavering support and conduct in promoting the good practice of journalism in the state.

Alkali appreciated Governor Sule for supporting the activities of the union in the state to succeed.

He promised to sustain his all-inclusive policies in order to protect, improve and better the welfare of members of the union.

“I want to assure you that we will not fail while discharging our duties as I will sustain my good policies and programmes for improved members welfare,” he said.

Alkali also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for supporting the activities of the union to succeed in the state.

The Five executive members re-elected were Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali Chairman from, Precious FM Chapel, Mr Sunday John, Secretary- NAN from Correspondent’s Chapel, Anna Jatau Kuje as Treasurer- Nasarawa Broacasting Service ( NBS) chapel, Mr Abari Solomon Dogara- Financial Secretary from NTA Chapel, Mr Abubakar Sadiq Ayigu as Assistant Secretary- Information Chapel (Ministry of Information).
