FTH, Gombe Govt partner to run 100-bed capacity hospital

Residents of Mallam Inna Community in Gombe State will soon enjoy the services of secondary health facilities, thereby affording them easy accessibility to healthcare delivery services.

The development is a sequel to the partnership agreement signed between the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH) and the Gombe State Government to operate a 100-bed capacity hospital in Malam Inna.

The 100-bed health facility was provided by the Gombe State Government, while the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, has agreed to run it by providing all secondary health services there, including referrals from primary healthcare centres around the area.

Speaking while signing the agreement, the Chief Medical Director of FTH, Gombe, Dr Yusuf Abdullahi, appreciated the gesture by the state government with the tertiary facility to manage the Mallam Inna Hospital.

While commending the Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, and other stakeholders for the initiative, he described it as the right step considering the efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

Yusuf Abdullahi also assured the state government and people of the community that FTH would offer quality healthcare services at the hospital.

Speaking earlier, Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, stated that it was an important milestone in the history of healthcare delivery services in Gombe State for a tertiary hospital like FTH, Gombe, to be given the management of such a community hospital.

The Commissioner assured that the state government, through his ministry, will give all the necessary support to ensure that the agreement works out.

In a vote of thanks, District Head of Mallam Inna, Alhaji Sa’idu Abubakar Kwairanga, stated that on behalf of his community and other surrounding communities that will benefit from the services, he expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, for prioritising healthcare delivery services in the state.

The traditional ruler assured that the communities would seize the opportunity offered by the development to seek medical attention at all times.

The epoch-making agreement was attended and witnessed by the former Chairman, Task Force Management on COVID-19 in Gombe; Professor Idris Mohammed, Vice Chancellor of Gombe State University; and Professor Aliyu El-Nafaty, among others.
