FRSC warns against under age, over speeding and overloading on highway

THE Assistant Corp Marshal in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara State ACM Kayode Olagunju Mni has issued a word of caution to motorists to exhibit safety consciousness on the road and ensure accident-free celebrations.

The statement is contained in a release signed by the Zonal Public Education Officer, ACC Aliyu Maaji.

The Zonal Commander while enumerating achievements so far recorded by the zone that, included, robust Public enlightenment, increase the visibility of the corps on the highways, and increase enforcement and rescue services cautioned vehicle owners in the three states against making their vehicles available to those below 18 years and also not licenced to operate vehicles.

He also advised against overloading of their vehicles and speeding in the excitement of Sallah Celebration, while condemning driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

ACM Kayode Olagunju disclosed that the Corp has made arrangements to ensure a hitch-free Sallah Celebration, as staff are deployed to various points to control and direct traffic while some would be stationed for rescue services.

He vowed that the corps operators will strictly enforce traffic rules during the celebrations and the violators will be arrested and prosecuted in the court of law.

He reminded motorists that those arrested stand the risks of six months imprisonment or any other periods as may be pronounced by the courts.

He also vowed to impound overloaded vehicles and those bring driven under the influence of alcohol apart from the arrests and prosecutions of such operators.

The Assistant Corps Marshal has directed all the Commanding Officers in the Zone to subject drivers to alcolysers and breathalyser tests to determine those driving under influence of alcohol and drugs.
