The State Sector Commander, Godwin Omika, made the appealed to Gombe on Thursday while briefing newsmen as part of activities to mark the 30th anniversary of FRSC in Nigeria.
He said that “Many organizations and Agencies that were established alongside with the FRSC have all collapsed but we and the National Orientation Agency have made it thus far. Our mandate is to reduce road crashes to the barest minimum as well as rescue those involved in the crashes”.
Godwin Omika then said, “Therefore I am calling on the general public to collaborate with us to enable us to achieve our mandate” because according to him, FRSC alone cannot do it, but with the help of the general public, the rate of the road crashes will reduce.
According to him, FRSC has been partnering with stakeholders like the National Union of Road Traffic Workers (NURTW) sister agencies to ensure the safety of the roads.
He also said that Gombe state government has assisted the Command in numerous ways which have contributed to the successes recorded in the operations of the Corps.

“I am appealing to members of the public to abide by the law, 90 percent of the road crashes are avoidable. Always ensure that your vehicles are in perfect condition before embarking on a journey, let us kill crash before it kills us”, he said.
As part of the activities of the anniversary, Officers and Men of the Command, members of the State NURTW, Special Marshals rode in a motorcade and went around the major streets of Gombe with public address system sensitising people on the safety of the roads.
And also on Friday and Sunday, they will go to Mosques and Churches to sensitise people on the safety of the road while on Saturday there will be a public lecture and interaction with the public as well as a novelty football match between Regular and Special Marshals of the Command.
