THE Kaduna sector command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) will prosecute motorists who cover number plates and use the country’s Coat of Arms as vehicle seat cover.
The sector commander, Mr Francis Udoma, gave the warning on Monday in a statement issued to newsmen in Kaduna.
He said that the act was contrary to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution that gave such privileges to certain category of office holders.
“The FRSC Kaduna sector command has observed with dismay the habit of some motorists who cover their number plates claiming to be top government officials.
“This is against the law and will be seen as criminal act.
“Also observed is the growing trend of unauthorised persons using the Nigerian Coat of Arms as vehicle seat cover.
“This act is contrary to the provisions of the Nigerian constitution,” Udoma said.
He explained that the Nigerian Coat of Arms could only be used by elected government officials of executive powers and their deputies.
Others, he said, are heads of national and state assemblies and their deputies as well as the Chief Justice of the Federation.
“FRSC Kaduna State hereby warns the general public to desist from such act.
“Henceforth, anyone found wanting will be punished in accordance with the laws of the federation,” he said.
