Some Residents of Awka, the Anambra state capital have joined the State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, to mark the 2019 World Bicycle Day.
World Bicycle Day is celebrated on the Third of June every year by the United Nations in collaboration with fifty-six other member countries.
Nigerian Tribune report that the day was meant to encourage member states to adopt best practices and means of strengthening physical and mental health as well as promote cycling.

Baring his mind on the significance of the day, the FRSC boss in Anambra, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi represented by the Deputy Corps Commander Operations of the Command, Mr. Anthony Okore, said that the day was adopted by the United Nations to sensitize people on the need to use bicycle as a means of transportation, as it is cheap and environmentally friendly, calling on residents of the state to key into cycling to reduce emission of carbon dioxide.
Mr. Patrick Ama from Awka South Council Area who participated in the exercise said that cycling is very healthy and encouraged and that people should embrace cycling also as a means of transportation.
