FRSC impounds 100 motorcycles in Kebbi, over sixty in Zamfara in two days

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has impounded over a hundred motorcycles in Kebbi state within the first two days of the implementation of the new number plates and drivers licence policy in the country.

This is according to the Zonal Commanding Officer, Rs 10, Assistant Corps Marshal Kayode Olagunju, while briefing journalists on the activities of the zone on the full implementation of new number plates as well as driver’s licences for motorists, motorcyclists and tricycle riders in the country.

ACM Olagunju, who is in charge of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara States, however, disclosed that the delay in the take-off of the exercise in Sokoto was due to the recent Tribunal judgement which he said was to avoid hoodlums taking advantage of the exercise to cause trouble in the state.

He further assured that having created enough awareness, the exercise will also take off fully in Sokoto any moment from now.

According to him, “I can assure you that there is no need for any announcement again before we commence, we can commence this night or tomorrow.

” We are not going to give a new deadline that we are starting on a particular day, to us the deadline has expired and we could commence any moment from now and can also be a surprise.

“I am also aware that all the stakeholders involved are ready and the government has done the needful” he explained.

He appealed to those that are yet to comply with the new development to quickly do so and not to be allowed to force them in doing so. He urged them to go for the number of plates and the drivers’ license on their own willingly.

Olagunju also confirmed that from the reports available, there is a sharp increase in the number of people that are being captured in both the driver’s licence as well as the new number plates.

He commended the governments of the state in the zones for making available adequate plate numbers that can go round for people interested in the new number plates and for other logistics support from the three states.

The Zonal Commanding Officer of the FRSC also revealed that a mobile court is being set up across the state in the zone to deal with any riders or drivers who violated the rule.
