FRSC boss, Ajayi dies in auto crash

The Anambra State sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC,  Mr Sunday Michael Ajayi has died. He died in an auto crash on Saturday morning on Agbor Highway, Delta State.

According to sources, the Sector commander was on his way from Kwara State, where he attended a relation’s wedding.

A message from the Corps Whatsaap group in South East, said, “His driver, a senior marshal, Raji, survived and is in hospital but Ajayi couldn’t make it. May his soul rest in peace.

“Ajayi who participated in the FRSC football competition yesterday (Friday) and handed over prizes was full of life before his untimely death.”

The FRSC flag at the command headquarters in Awka, was seen lowered as symbol of respect for him.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ufiem Egim confirmed the report, but said the command was yet to come up with a formal report detailing the cause of his death.

Meanwhile, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) in Sango-Ota, Ogun State has said danger was averted, on Saturday, when a tanker laden with 33,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit lost control at Ilo-Awera, Toll-Gate area.

The Sango-Ota Zonal Commander of TRACE, MrAdekunleAjibade, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota that the accident happened at 4.06p.m.

He said that the Mack tanker, with registration number FKJ 913XD,  was heading for Lagos, when it lost control due to brake failure and crossed the divider to hit a vehicle marked EKY 748 TN.

He said that only the two vehicles were involved in the accident, adding that the driver was injured.

“A serious disaster that could have claimed so many lives was averted through the intervention of the Almighty God,” he said.

He also said that the injured person had been taken to General Hospital, Sango-Ota, for an intensive treatment.

Ajibade said that TRACE personnel, Federal Road Safety Corps and the police were on ground to control the situation.

He told NAN that the fuel was transloaded into other vehicles.
