FIVE persons, including four children whose ages ranged from eight to 13, were, on Friday, buried alive at Ramin Farar Kasa in Kano State when the land on which they were excavating white sand caved in.
The incident occurred at about 2.45 p.m. at Ramin Farar Kasa on Friday.
Spokesperson for the Kano State Fire Service, Sai’idu Mohammed, identified those who died as Sa’ida Lawwali, 32; Dije Shu’aibu, 8; Hadiza Shu’aibu, 12; Nana Idris, 12; and Wasila Nuhu, 13.
He, however, confirmed that a four-year-old boy, Ibrahim Shuaibu, was rescued with six others.
Most of the survivors sustained multiple fractures and were taken to a government hospital for medical attention.
According to Mohammed: “We received a distress call on Friday afternoon from Dauni village that some people who were digging sand were trapped and we dispatched firemen to the scene. We were able to rescue a four-years-old boy and six others,” he said.
Bodies of the dead were handed over to the village head of Dauni, Bello Rabi’u, for burial.
