Foundation trains Borno MDAs on transitional justice to promote peace

The Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development has trained officials from Borno State’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) on transitional justice to promote peace and reconciliation in the state.

Speaking during the one-day training in Maiduguri on Tuesday, Hamsatu Allamin, the foundation’s CEO, said the training focused on efforts towards victims and survivors of Boko Haram, as well as the reintegration and resettlement of surrendered insurgents.

Allamin explained that the training aimed to equip stakeholders with the necessary knowledge and skills to support the state’s transitional justice process, ensuring a coordinated approach to addressing conflict root causes and promoting non-violent resolution of grievances.

The training aims to understand stakeholders’ efforts towards Boko Haram victims and surrendered insurgents, ensuring future prevention.

“Many have lost lives, dignity, and respect due to Boko Haram’s actions, causing societal challenges and inconveniences,” Allamin noted.

The foundation warned surrendered insurgents to desist from actions undermining the reintegration process, appealing to them to make amends for past actions causing immense suffering.

Allamin emphasized community acceptance of surrendered insurgents, crucial to complementing government efforts and the 25-year Borno model and transitional Justice development plan.

Stakeholders should be educated on transitional justice and share their peace and unity efforts in relation to transitional justice, she added.
