Foundation sponsors free medical screening, treatment to 1,500 patients in Gwarzo

A Kano-based Non-Governmental Organisation, Adamu Abubakar-Gwarzo Foundation has offered free medical screening and treatment to 1, 500 patients in Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano state.

The Founder of the NGO and President of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN), Prof. Adamu Abubakar-Gwarzo, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano shortly after the exercise on Monday.

He said the medical screening and treatments were conducted at Gwarzo general hospital by 12 doctors and 10 nurses.

He said his decision to sponsor the medical screening was borne out of his desire to provide free medical service and support to the Gwarzo community for the development of the area and the state as large.

He assured the people of the area of his continued support for the social and economic development of the area and the state.

“This informed my decision to site the Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Gwarzo town.

“Anywhere a university is located, it usually promotes socio-economic development in addition to commercial activities as it did in Maradi, Niger Republic after establishing MAAUN.

He, therefore, called on the youth from the area to pursue both western and Islamic education, pointing out that education is the bedrock of socio-economic development.

“Even the developed nations were able to reach where they reached because of their belief in education,“ he said.

Also speaking, one of the doctors, Dr Ryan Garba said 12 doctors and 10 nurses conducted the medical screening on 1,500 patients including men, women and children.

He said during the screening they were able to identify three major diseases among the adult patients such as Malaria, hypertension and diabetes, and malnutrition among children.

He, however, called on well-to-do individuals in the society to sponsor a similar programme by screening people in order to identify the killer diseases at their early stage to prevent the patients from sudden death.

“The screening will also provide the patients with knowledge of their health status so as to prevent them from dying of related complications.
