Foundation hands over healthcare facility to Niger community

North South Power Foundation (NSPF), has handed over ultra-modern public health centre in Awasha community in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger state.

The Chief Operating Officer of NSP, Mr. Ugochukwu Chioke, performs the handiing over ceremony of the facility to Awasha community in Shiroro Local Government Area of the state.

Chioke, who was represented by General Manager, Plant Services, Suleiman Abubakar, said the facility will provide healthcare services to Awasha community and neighbouring communities in Zumba and Gwada districts.

“During one of our need assessment sentisation in the community, we discovered the facility was an old dilapidated mud house and was being occupied by goats.

“NSP saw the need to sign an MoU with Shiroro local government council to construct the facility so that members of the community can access care without traveling long distance,” he said.

He stated further that the facility was a grassroots approach to address health problems among members of the community where women and children can access immunisation and maternity services.

In her remarks,  Head of NSP Foundation, Ms. Kemi Adekanye said the structure was unhygienic to carter for children and women before it was constructed by NSP foundation.

She noted  that the foundation has been executing projects in host communities in areas such as agriculture, water, education, health and community development.

Also, the Consultant on Corporate Social Responsibility with NSP, Alhaji Hassan Abdullahi said it was the responsibility of the community to own, maintain, and protect facility so as to benefit by them .

In his remarks, the Chairman of Shiroro Local Government Council, Alhaji Halilu Ishaku  appreciated the foundation for the facility and the various interventions it  had been carrying out in host communities.

The Village Head of Awasha, Alhaji Sai’du Wakili, appreciated NSP foundation by  giving a new face to the facility which he said had been left dilapidated for many years.

Medical Director of NSP Hospital, Dr.  Jimoh Wasiu,  said the capacity of the facility was a six beds  space consisting of consultation  room, wards, pharmacist and medical records.
