As part of its vision to support government efforts in the health sector and make healthcare accessible to the common man in Osun state, a nongovernmental Organisation, the Olugbenga Akintola Foundation has donated N18 million worth of antibiotics vials to the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Health Centre, Ile-Ife.

The foundation has been known for support for health institutions within Osun state.

The Executive Director of the foundation, Mr. Gbenga Akintola, during the donation in Ile Ife, explained that the foundation had been donating drugs to hospitals across the state in the last six years for general improvement in the health delivery, saying that the foundation has also organized free medical service for the people of Osun State.

He noted that the N18m worth of drugs donated to the management of the OAU health centre including about 2,000 packs of Tozacin which were basically antibiotics for treatment of blood, abdomen and lungs infections, adding that the antibiotic vials would assist the health centre in providing quality services in the treatment of chronic infections maintaining that there is the need for organisations and individuals to assist government in the area of health delivery as the government alone cannot provide the needed quality of health care delivery for the citizenry.

“The will and readiness of the foundation to assist government in fulfilling its obligation is responsible for its incessant partnership with government in providing quality health delivery,” he said.

Speaking, the Director of the OAU health centre, Dr Adedayo Irinoye, commended the foundation for the gesture as the management of the institution was grateful for the donation, describing the drugs, as very potent antibiotics, which would assist in saving lives at the centre.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of the University, Dr Olugbenga Ajila, said that the antibiotics vials would assist the health centre in providing quality health delivery, noting that the subvention coming to the institution was no longer regular and the antibiotics would go a long way in making antibiotics vials available to patients.

In the same vein, Prof. Kayode Ijaduola, the provost of College of health Sciences said the institution was grateful to the foundation for remembering the health centre.
