Yusuff had sought for divorce at the court claiming that all his wife, Hassanat Fatai, was aiming at was to kill him.
He thus prayed the court to separate them.
He stated thus: “My lord, all my wife is aiming at is to get rid of me.
“She has succeeded in turning me into a hypertensive patient because she’s always on my nerves.
“Any time we have a misunderstanding, she will brandish sharp objects at me.
“Few months ago, we fought and she wounded me with a knife. I bled profusely. I’m alive today due to our neighbours’ timely intervention. I was rushed to the hospital where I received medical attention.
“The wound from the injury was still healing when she broke my skull with a sledge hammer. My head was stitched and I developed high blood pressure. I was on admission for nearly three weeks.
“My wife fights not only me, but our neighbours also. Everyone tries as much as possible to avoid her because of her erratic nature.
“She once fought one of our neighbours and wounded her. Her husband arrested my wife and me with the police and we were locked up in the cell for days.
“I had a kidney problem and was operated on. After being discharged and was recuperating, she fought with me again. My blood pressure shot up and I was rushed back to the hospital.
“My lord, the sight of my wife sends shivers down my spine. I’m always afraid of her because she’s violent.
“I don’t want her any more. Please tell her to leave my house, “the plaintiff concluded.
Hassanat admitted all her husband said was true, but didn’t agree to his prayer of divorce.
“All my husband said is true, but I still love him and don’t want our marriage dissolved.
“My problem is spiritual and I have been praying to overcome it.
The court president, Chief Agbaje Olasunkanmi called the couple’s parents out as witnesses.
They all stated that they did their best in making peace reign between the couple, but all their efforts proved abortive.
They all supported the dissolution of their marriage.
Agbaje, after listening to all parties, dissolved the marriage and gave the defendant custody of their child.
The plaintiff was ordered to pay N12,000 monthly as their child’s feeding allowance and also give the defendant N12,000 as payment of one year house rent of a new accommodation.
