A 20-year-old housewife, Matha Onum, has begged a Customary Court in Ikole-Ekiti, Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, to dissolve her two-year-old co-habitation to Gabriel for alleged drunkenness.
Matha told the court that her husband would always fight her after taken alcohol.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she also claimed that Gabriel, who had not paid her dowry, had no respect for her parents.
The woman said that the union had produced a child.
Gabriel, who did not deny the allegation of his drinking habit, prayed the court to allow them settle the matter out of court.
He promised that he would change from all the bad habits his wife complained of.
The husband said, “My mother came all the way from our village in respect of this divorce issue, I will be happy if the court can give us time to sort our differences.”
President of the three-man panel, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, held that the court was disposed to settlement out of court.
Ojo adjourned the case till February27 for report of settlement.
